We Need a Constitutional Amendment To Ban Religious Law

If you've been keeping up with current events you know about this attempt by Ted Cruz to pander to the religious right with a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage.

Living In His Own Reality, Cruz Files Constitutional Amendment To Ban Same-Sex Marriage

What we really need is to have a Constitutional Amendment that would ban laws based purely on religious dogma of any sort. What they propose is no better than Sharia Law. These people like Mr. Cruz will rant and rave about Muslims wanting Sharia Law, then turn around and try to pull the same stunt. That is to impose their religious values on people who want nothing to do with it.

We don't need Sharia Law, or laws based on Christianity either. Both of them are anathema to a free society, and should be shunned with all vigor. What our people need is a way to prevent people from shoving their morality onto people who don't believe the same. We need a Constitutional Amendment that would ban such laws. It might be viewed as a strengthening of the 1st Amendment.

1st Amendment; Prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.

I would think the Christian Right would welcome such an Amendment too! They would be assured that Sharia Law could not be instituted anywhere in our nation. That one thing alone would seem like something of value to them, unless they would reject such a notion because it would also disallow them from instituting their own laws based on their religion. If so, then we would be having nothing more than a battle for government by religious factions. That is a disgusting notion, and a dangerous one too. We can just look to the Middle-East to see what happens when religious fervor runs rampant, and people battle it out over ideology.

28th Amendment "No law shall be based on Religious dogma. All law in the United States must pass scientific scrutiny, and be based on scientific consensus of the facts."

This would also protect us from people who are climate deniers, like James Inhof. He said "God wouldn't allow it". We as people of reason know that for him God has nothing to do with it, and the pumping and burning of oil has everything to do with it. An Amendment like I propose would also prevent unscrupulous people from using pseudo-science to dictate public policy too! If law were measured by the yard stick of scientific consensus before it is brought up for a vote, the climate deniers would lose right off the bat, and our environment would win. We as a people would win.

Support reason over myth and greed. Support an Amendment to the Constitution that would disallow law based on religious dogma or pseudo-science.
